Deep under the waters of Souda Bay, on Crete, near Greece, U.S. Navy underwater construction crews work to maintain the integrity of mooring systems for ships and large vessels. In this photo, Navy underwater builder Adam Perry (builder 1st class) takes measurements of ground rings under a fleet mooring system riser buoy in the intensely blue waters of Souda Bay. Other Navy underwater construction and engineering personnel inspected or repaired heavy chains and shackles, and other mooring elements, cleaning them to remove marine growth and checking for damage.
