At Mayport Naval Air Station near Jacksonville, Florida, Command Master Chief William Mullinax (center of photo, gesturing), assigned to the USS Iwo Jima, supervises the packaging and organizing of gifts intended for distribution to enlisted personnel overseas and at military facilities in the U.S., many of the gifts intended for families and children of service members.
The gifts—most of them tax-deductible donations—are handed out to servicemen as a morale booster for those on duty during the holidays. The holiday gift program is part of Operation Homefront, and this year it netted thousands of gifts for military families and children. Operation Homefront also includes donations and volunteer activities to help with home repairs, food assistance, and financial assistance when needed.
